Unbelievable class. The White Sox may have broken our heart, but my daughter and I will forever be White Sox fans.
정말로 멋진 팀인 것 같아요. 화이트삭스 때문에 우리 기대가 무너졌을진 몰라도, 우리 딸이랑 저는 이제 열렬한 화이트삭스팬이 되었답니다.
My daughter Carris is 8 years old and loves the Astros. She has been with me through the entire season as well as the 18-inning playoff game against the Cardinals and Game 6 when the Astros clinched the National league championship. The World Series offered me a chance to enjoy an experience with her that neither of us will ever forget. We arrived at the ballpark at 4:15 p.m. to see and feel the energy of a World Series game. She hoped and hoped that we would be lucky enough to get a Jeff Bagwell autograph (her favorite player). The Astros took the field and left without even looking our way.
우리 딸 캐리는요 8살이구요. 애스트로스팬이예요. 시즌 내내 저랑 휴스턴을 같이 응원했어요. 당연히 치열했던 카디널스와의 18이닝 게임이랑 리그챔피언이 확정되던 6차전도 그렇구요. 그리고 월드시리즈 동안에 우린 정말 잊지 못할 경험을 했답니다. 우리는요 4:15분에 일찌감치 경기장에 도착했어요~ 월드시리즈 분위기를 한껏 느끼면서 즐기려구요. 우리 딸은 제프 베그웰 사인을 너무너무 받고싶다고 하더라구요. (애가 제일 좋아하는 선수예요). 근데 휴스턴 선수들은 경기장에서 우리쪽으론 한번도 안 보더라구요.
Carris was slightly upset but stayed anxious and hopeful that the Astros would come back and sign autographs. We stayed positioned on the front rail and watched as the White Sox took the field to warm up. They seemed loose and confident. They played with the fans that razzed them and consistently threw balls to the crowd. Soon the fans were enjoying the White Sox players. Many came over to the stands and small-talked.
그래서 딸이 좀 속상했던 모양인데, 그래도 포기 안하고 계속 기대를 하더라구요. 선수들이 이쪽으로 오진 않을까 그래서 싸인 해주지 않을까 말이죠. 우린 앞 줄에서 계속 기다리고 있는데, 화이트삭스 선수들 덕분에 분위기가 한껏 물이 올랐어요. 화삭 선수들은 좀 긴장한 거 같지도 않고 자신있어 보이더라구요. 팬들이랑 짓궂은 장난도 치구요~ 관중석으로 공도 계속 던져주더라구요. 팬들이 화삭 선수들과 함께 즐거운 시간을 보냈어요. 많은 선수들이 스탠드쪽으로 와서 얘기도 하고 그랬답니다.
My daughter still was not convinced the White Sox deserved any positive reinforcement. We then watched and now hoped to catch a foul ball. A few came our way although most landed well out of reach. Then, BAM. I was looking up into the stands where a ball had landed 15 rows behind me and then it happened. Everyone around me was yelling, "The little girl got hit". I felt my heart fall out of my chest as I turned to look and see if my daughter was the girl they were shouting about.
근데 우리 딸한테는 화삭 선수들과 의 즐거운 시간도 별로 였나봐요. 파울볼이라도 하나 어떻게 안될까 하고 계속 그라운드를 보고 있었어요. 몇 개가 우리 쪽으로 날아오긴 했는데 좀 거리가 있어서 못 잡았어요. 드디어~ 일이 터졌습니다. 공이 내 좌석 뒤로 15 째 줄로 떨어져서 보고 있었는데 일이 터진 겁니다. 내 주위에 있던 사람들이 다 소릴 지르는데~ “꼬마가 공에 맞았다~” 하는데~ 혹시 우리 딸 아닌가 싶어서 돌아 보는 순간에 가슴이 철렁 내려 앉더라구요.
Carris had a look on her face that I can not describe. She took a step back and tried to sit on the seat folded up behind her. I kept asking "Where did it hit you, where did it hit you?" She held up her hand and showed me a red, bruised spot on the meaty side of her hand. The security guard positioned in front of us called for the medics. Carris had a tear in her eye although she seemed OK if not in shock.
우리 딸 얼굴 표정이~~~ 제가 말론 못하겠네요. 뒤로 물러서면서 의자를 펴고 앉으려고 하더라구요. 계속 물어봤죠. “너 어디 맞았어? 어디야?” 딸 아이가 붙잡고 있던 손을 보여주는데 손바닥 살이 많은 부분이 빨갛게 부었더라구요. 우리 앞에 안전요원이 의료진 부르고~ 겉보기엔 괜찮아 보이고 잘은 모르지만 충격을 받은거 같진 않은데~ 눈에는 눈물이 그렁그렁 했어요.
We waited for the medics to come but the first person there was the White Sox bullpen coach Man Soo Lee. He checked on Carris and handed her a ball. This brought a small smile to her face and allowed me a chance to catch this World Series moment on camera. Man Soo Lee reached down and picked up Carris and held her close to him for the pose. He offered some sympathetic words and then the medics arrived. Carris' hand was a little bruised but will be fine. We then left the rail at the front row and found our seats. Carris held her ball, her bumble bee balloon, as well as her bumble bee glove for the rest of the game.
우리가 의료진을 기다리고 있는데 처음 온 사람이 바로 화삭의 불펜코치 이만수씨였어요. 우리 딸을 보더니 손에다 공을 쥐어주더라구요. 그랬더니만 우리 딸 얼굴에 웃음이 번지고, 덕분에 월드시리즈 최고의 사진도 찍을 수 있었죠. 이만수씨는 딸아이를 번쩍 들어서 끌어 안고 다정하게 포즈까지 취해주었답니다. 이만수 코치는 안심이 되는 위로의 말도 해줬구요, 좀 있으니까 의료진이 오더라구요. 우리 딸은 게임 끝날 때 까지 그 공이랑 풍선이랑 글러브를 꼭 쥐고 있었어요.
Even though Carris and I continued to root for the Astros, it's the little thing that White Sox coach Man Soo Lee did that will keep us pulling for the White Sox too (at least in the American League). I want to let everyone know that baseball is the fans game and Man Soo Lee is our hero. Go White Sox and Astros! -- Stan Terry, Baytown, Texas
딸아이랑 저는 휴스턴의 골수팬이구요~ 앞으로도 쭉 응원할꺼예요~ 근데 이만수코치 만나고 난 다음부턴 계속 화싹이란 팀도 끌리네요. 제가 말하고 싶은 건, 야구는 팬을 위한 스포츠이구요~ 그런 의미에서 이만수코치는 우리의 영웅이랍니다. 화싹, 휴스턴~ 아자~~ ^^
