이 노래는 초기 록큰롤 시대 비운의 스타 Buddy Holly가 1958년 발표했던 곡이 원곡이다.

이후 1950 - 1960년대 동안 많은 록큰롤 가수들이 리메이크를 하였고,

Linda Ronstadt 가 1974년 느린 템포의 버전으로 리메이크하면서 이후의 가수들은

모두 린다 론스태드의 버전을 참고로 하여 리메이크하게 됐다.

대부분의 사람들이 아마도 버디 홀리의 자작곡으로 잘못 알고 있는 이 노래는

Paul Anka의 작품으로서 그에게 작곡가로서 명성을 얻게 한 최초의 곡이었다.

폴 앵카는 900곡 정도의 자작곡을 갖고 있는데 그 중 130여곡 정도를 다른 가수들에게 주었고

그 중 최초로 히트를 기록한 곡이 바로 'It doesn't matter anymore'였다.
